18 years old, adulthood!

Nuit Blanche sur Tableau Noir

Nuit Blanche sur Tableau Noir (NBTN) is turning 18! To celebrate this milestone, a wide range of amazing and original activities will take place from June 6 to 9, 2013. An original small happening that has now become a major event, NBTN continues to invite all sorts of artists to take advantage of the street setting and engage the public. And just like when we turned 18, we’ll live every day of this celebration to the fullest! Nuit Blanche sur Tableau Noir will take place on Mont-Royal Avenue, between St. Laurent Boulevard and Fullum Street.

La Grande Fresque de Nuit

This year, La Grande Fresque de Nuit will also play with the theme of turning 18 during a night of intense collective creation. Forty-five artists, including six beloved “veterans” will create a series of frescos directly on the pavement of Mont-Royal Avenue itself. The activity will take place on June 6, between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. (postponed to the following night in the case of rain). La Grande Fresque de Nuit will be preceded at 9.30 p.m. by the participative event Dalida : Il venait d’avoir 18 ans, in front of Mont-Royal metro station.

Starting at 3 p.m. on June 6, and lasting during the entire NBTN event, a series of concerts will take place on the alternative scene which will be located once more in front of Mont-Royal metro station. Some of the participants include Mara Tremblay, Catherine Leduc, Propofol, Dylan Perron, Les Lazy Lovers, Caracol, Ludo Pin, Orkestrar Kriminal, and many more. A program developed in collaboration with Coup de Coeur francophone. Other musical activities will also take place in situ and in the des Compagnons-de-Saint-Laurent Park, such as Le Choeur classique de Montréal under the direction of choirmaster Louis Lavigueur, the festive orchestra Funkxie Groove, and the novel orchestra Pop Tronique, which provides some audience participants with crayons and drawing pads designed to transform the strokes of their crayons into music…

Participants of the 18 +, micropoetry for adults activity will have to be at least 18! Inspired by peep-shows, poets Jean-Paul Daoust and Catherine Lalonde will deliver their daring poetry in the intimacy provided by a small booth (max. 1 person). Friday June 7 and Saturday June 8, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Mont-Royal Avenue, corner St. Denis.

During the entire Avoir 18 ans participative event, you’ll find hundreds of large portraits of youth decorating the walls of the Avenue. By creating this photo installation, NBTN wants to give a face and presence to these young adults, highlighting their vitality, commitment, and aspirations. To create this project, NBTN met with them in the places they like to frequent in order to photograph them and document the exhibit. The 18 ans installation is part of the vast international Inside Out project, conceived by artist JR(www.insideouteproject.net. The project aims to transform messages of personal identity into a global artistic endeavour. Displayed during the four days of NBTN.

Friday June 7 at 7:30 p.m., NBTN invites the public to the Jeunesse d’aujourd’hui festive walk. The public will parade bearing slogans and images centred on the theme of being 18. These signs will then be part of an installation located at des Compagnons-de-Saint-Laurent Park until Sunday. A sort of joyous protest to celebrate the enthusiasm of youth!

Many of us aren’t 18 anymore, and some of us haven’t reached that age yet. The 18 en tout temps was designed just for them. NBTN invites the public to be photographed in its amusing photomaton booth. Humorous phrases like “Thank God I’m not 18 anymore” will be inscribed on the pictures. Participants will also be able to write their own captions. At des Compagnons-de-Saint-Laurent Park, Friday June 7 from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday June 8 and Sunday June 9, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The pictures will then be showcased on Mont-Royal Avenue’s Facebook page.

Many other fun and festive activities are also part of the program, including Rêves d’enfants sur Tableau Noir, a series of activities for young kids who will also have their own creative space on the pavement in front of des Compagnons-de-Saint-Laurent Park.

Everyone is invited to celebrate the 18th edition of Nuit Blanche sur Tableau Noir, from June 6 to 9, 2013 on Mont-Royal Avenue. Take advantage of numerous terraces that will welcome you for the event and the large trade fair which will also occur during the happening.
