Around the theme Make a wish!, the 6th edition of Nuit Blanche sur Tableau Noir expands its horizons even further. Nearly 300 000 spectators come to see art and creation unfold during these four magnificent, sunny days.

With record attendance from the public as well as the artists, Nuit Blanche sur Tableau Noir strengthens its position on Quebec's cultural scene. The heart of the event, La Grande Fresque de nuit (street painting by starlight), beats to the rhythm of paintbrushes masterfully handled by some 54 participating artists, among whom two are of international fame (Jean Côté and André Pijet). Nearly 15 000 spectators attend this colorful event under the stars where, more than ever, the complicity uniting artists and audience is truly palpable and concrete. .

For a second consecutive year, artists from Concordia University embellished shop windows of Mont-Royal Avenue businesses. A window on the next generation. And yet another, younger generation used its artistic talents to brighten up the Avenue, as the event Kids' Dreams on Blackboard took on larger proportions during the 2001 edition. All in all, an edition truly marked by increased visibility and growing popularity.

The wishing tree, the main collective activity of the 2001 edition, is inspired by an ancestral Tibetan tradition, where people write down a wish and suspend it to a tree. Thus, a tree laden with nearly 2000 wishes extends its branches along Mont-Royal Avenue.
