A BIT OF HISTORY...
In 1996, somewhere on Mont-Royal Avenue, springs the idea of creating an artistic event aimed at the general public. Being the first of its kind in the visual arts world, the event answers the need to give artists a public platform of expression. A lively neighborhood, a busy avenue, many passers-by, and artists, lots of artists: this is the magic formula behind the creation of Nuit Blanche sur Tableau Noir!

Since its inception, Nuit Blanche sur Tableau Noir has featured more than 450 visual artists, and has attracted over 1100 000 visitors in six years. Over 425 liters of gouache have been used in the making of the 1160 temporary works of art created by the 300 artists of La Grande Fresque de nuit (street painting by starlight)

Some notorious names from all fields of the visual art world have graced the list of the many participants, who are always selected based on the quality and originality of their work, be they already famous or yet unknown!

ZILON, ARMAND VAILLANCOURT, ROBERT DESAUTEL, GUY NADON, PIERRE BEAUDOIN, SYLVIE TOURANGEAU, TATIANA DÉMIDOFF-SÉGUIN, painters, sculptors, illustrators, comic book artists, performers, artists of all kinds, altogether creating a colorful mosaic.

The constant evolution of Nuit Blanche sur Tableau Noir is living proof that there is undeniably a place for visual arts on the street in Montreal.

And now, here are the details of the wonderful story of Nuit Blanche sur Tableau Noir
